Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not sure which program fits me. Where do I start?

Start with where you are right now. If you have an AAS or AAT from a community college or technical school, one of the BAS programs is almost certainly your fastest path to a bachelor's degree. If you've accumulated 90 or more credit hours from any combination of schools, look at the Bachelor of University Studies. If you already hold a bachelor's and want graduate-level credentials or career-focused skills, the graduate certificates are designed for you. Still not sure? Use the chat on this page or request information and an enrollment advisor will help you map it out.

Do I need an associate's degree to apply?

For the BAS programs, yes. They are designed specifically for graduates of AAS or AAT programs from accredited institutions and are built to accept technical credits that most four-year universities won't count. If you have significant college credits but no associate's degree, the Bachelor of University Studies may be the better path, provided you've completed 90 or more credit hours. Contact us and we can tell you exactly where you stand.

I have credits from a community college or technical school. Can I use them?

Yes, and that is exactly what these programs are designed to do. The BAS programs accept up to 60 transfer credit hours, including up to 45 technical credit hours from your AAS or AAT. The Bachelor of University Studies is specifically structured for students who have already completed 90 or more hours. Your prior education is a head start, not something you have to work around.

Are these programs available online?

Most CPCS programs are fully online and built around the schedule of working adults. Several are also available on campus in Starkville. Courses run in 8-week terms, which means you have multiple start points throughout the year. Each program page lists the available delivery formats so you can confirm before applying.

How much do these programs cost?

The current online tuition rate is $460.75 per credit hour for undergraduate and graduate programs. Most BAS programs require 120 total hours, but the credits you transfer in significantly reduce how much you actually pay. Many students use employer tuition assistance, GI Bill benefits, or financial aid to cover costs. For the full tuition and fee breakdown, visit the MSU tuition page.

I'm active duty or a veteran. Are there programs built for me?

Yes. MSU is a Military Friendly Gold School and CPCS programs are designed with service members and veterans in mind. The Master of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership includes a Military concentration. The Veterans Services Graduate Certificate prepares professionals to support military communities in higher education and government settings. GI Bill, MyCAA, and military tuition assistance all apply. Our enrollment team can help you navigate your specific benefits.

Can a certificate count toward a degree or master's program?

Yes. The CPCS certificate programs are built to stack. Courses from the Applied Leadership Graduate Certificate and the Veterans Services Graduate Certificate count toward the Master of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership. And up to 9 credit hours from the BAS in Organizational Leadership can apply toward the master's program if you continue. You're not choosing between a certificate and a degree — you're building toward both.
